Central Park Zoo

The Central Park Zoo unofficially began when New Yorkers started dropping off unwanted animals at the arsenal. These included everything from 72 white swans to a black bear cub.

In 1864 the legislature approved the construction of a several buildings to house the growing collection. There were many changes throughout the years. The most recent construction to the new zoo was finished in 1985.

Over one million people visit the Central Park Zoo every year. Spring is a perfect time to visit.
