Barenaked Ladies in New York City

It may seem like I spend a lot of time in bookstores, but in reality I’m just lucky and I end up being in the right place at the right time (like when Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart were signing copies of their pop-up books at Barnes and Noble).

This week we stumbled upon a performance of the Barenaked Ladies promoting their new children’s CD Snack Time at a downtown Barnes & Noble in New York City. Many of the chairs were full of parents using their toddlers as an excuse to see a favorite band from the 80’s.

For thirty minutes Ed Robertson, Steven Page, Tyler Stewart, Jim Creeggan and Kevin Hearn entertained us with their music and vibrant personalities.

Snack Time is their first children’s CD. There is also a book with fun drawings and lyrics from the songs. Ed says their inspiration for making a children’s CD came from the musical interests of their own children, who range in age from three months to 12 years.

The songs on the new CD are entertaining and fun for both parents and children. A favorite of the set was 7 8 9. They have also collaborated with Emmy-nominated animator Nancy Lennert (Blues Clues, Little Bill) to create a hilarious western-themed video for the track (see below).

Other songs on the CD include titles such as The Ninjas, Pollywog in a Bog, Raisins, Eraser, I Can Sing, Vegetable Town and more.

Drawing!
There’s a blueberry pancake flying in the sky.
I can see it. I can see it.
With my imagination I can see it!
With my pencil crayons I can draw it!
On a piece of paper I can show it to you.

My Big Sister
