Pop-Up Art in New York City's Tribeca
I love living in New York City because anything can happen. Today, while I was downtown I wandered into the Tribeca Barnes & Noble bookstore. I was thrilled to learn that Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda were in the store signing books and talking about some of their latest projects.
I have been collecting Robert Sabuda’s pop-up books for years and I found it extremely interesting to hear him talk about his latest book The Chronicles of Narnia. It was also fascinating to hear Matthew Reinhart talk about his most recent project Star Wars A Pop-up Guide to the Galaxy. The best part, however, was the sneak-peak they gave us of their latest project the soon to be released Fairies and Magical Creatures (which by the way, is absolutely amazing!)
All of the pop-up books are hand made. The artists spend a lot of time creating the 3-D images and perfecting the movement of the characters. The details in the Star Wars book are amazing. Matthew spent several hours just working on Princess Leia’s eyes. The book even has lightsabers that light up when the pages are opened.
If you are not familiar with these pop-up books it is time for you to find them and start your own collection. These pop-up books are not just for kids. They are amazing works of art.
Following are a few videos you may find interesting about the artists and their work. You can also get additional information from Robert Sabuda’s web site.
Get out into the city and enjoy everything it has to offer. You never know what will happen next.
