Hello, Cupcake! Book Party at Times Square

Karen Tack and Alan Richardson certainly earned their money last week when they were promoting their new book by patiently helping hundreds of people decorate cupcakes at the M&M’s store in Times Square. It was hot, crowded and chaotic, but everyone decorating the cupcakes seemed to be having a good time.

I didn’t have the patience to stand in the long line. I did, however, get a chance to talk to Karen Tack and have both of them sign my book.

Karen takes everyday items and uses them to create fun cupcake designs. In the book she includes hints on how to use plastic zip lock bags and she explains how to cut different tips to create fur, leaves or petals. Some of the creative items in the book include penguins, buttered popcorn, spaghetti and meatballs and snow globes.

I’ve already started making some of the cupcakes in the book. Most of them are extremely fast and easy to make (like the owls pictured above). Others are a little bit more time consuming, but the results are a lot of fun. Take a look at Bake Chocolate Cake for some more photos of my cupcakes.

The designs are so much fun they make every day a reason to celebrate.
