New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art Christmas Tree
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Christmas Tree is currently on display until January 6, 2013
Loretta Hines Howard began collecting crèche figures in 1925. In 1964 she started giving these beautiful 18th century Neapolitan crèche figures to the museum. There are over 200 figures.
Fifty majestic angels are on the tree with lights strategically placed to illuminate their faces. At the base of the tree are various buildings, villagers, shepherds and the three Magi. The crèche figures range from 6 to 20 inches in height and the details are stunning. The nativity with shepherds completes this amazing collection.
If you are currently living in New York City, then you probably already know what a magical experience it is to see the tree. It is a wonderful yearly tradition, especially when planned around holiday concerts at the museum.
If you are just visiting the city, then definitely make time to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the tree. It is absolutely breathtaking. It is certainly one of the greatest joys of visiting Manhattan during the holidays.
Give yourself time to stand back and view the entire tree, as well as examine the various expressions of the angels and the numerous characters at the base of the tree.
It is an experience you will remember forever.
